Providing Support for the Loved Ones of Addiction
We at Luminance Recovery are perfectly aware of the strain your loved one’s addiction is causing you. Especially if you are the parent or sibling of someone addicted to drugs or alcohol, you wonder if it will ever get better, if there was something you should or shouldn’t have done to prevent this, why you can’t convince them to stop.
THESE ARE ALL EXTREMELY HEAVY BURDENS TO BEAR. AND IF YOU FEEL ALONE IN YOUR QUIET STRUGGLE, WE WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT YOU ARE NOT. THERE ARE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE STRUGGLING WITH SIMILAR SITUATIONS, AND THEY’VE CREATED A NETWORK WHERE TOGETHER YOU CAN HELP EACH OTHER THROUGH IT.
Al-Anon is a group therapy program designed specifically for loved ones and family members of alcoholics and drug addicts. The name is a shortened version of Alcoholics Anonymous, but serves as a separation from the meetings geared towards alcoholics themselves.
In these meetings, you can be connected to others who are going through the same struggle, the same internal war over your loved one’s addiction that you can’t seem to win.
How Al-Anon Works
Members of this program don’t give advice or make suggestions to each other. The support comes from hearing others’ stories, being given the chance to share some of your own, and establishing connections with other people who simply know what you’re going through and want to be there for you.
Whether your loved one decides to get help, stop using alcohol or drugs, or continues, you have experienced trauma living with your loved one’s addiction, and Al-Anon is there to help.
To learn more about this program and how to become a part of it, you can visit their home page here.
Though we don’t offer these meetings at our facility, we at Luminance Recovery find joy in the possibility that this information may lead to your personal healing, regardless of your loved one’s decisions that you cannot control.
