Randy's Story. This Is Me.
Randy has been working in the field of addiction for the past five years. His experience covers all areas, including house operations, detox facility management, addiction education, and support groups. Randy brings wisdom, real life experience, and education to Luminance and is a tremendous asset to the clients we treat.
Randy Garcia brings to his counseling a burning passion that stems from decades of personal turmoil and strife with heroin addiction, the wrong side of the law, and isolation from his dearest friends and family. Long before Randy started counseling addicts at Luminance Recovery, he bounced around from state correctional facilities, starting at the young age of 10 years old. Before becoming a counselor in his 50s, Randy tells us that he was a career criminal. Since receiving treatment and becoming a drug and alcohol counselor, Randy has reconciled the pains of his past and uses them to help clients of Luminance Recovery fight for the betterment of their own lives.
“My daughter didn’t talk to me for seventeen years.”
Randy’s heroin addiction drove his family away, but recovery helped forged their reconnection.
As Randy tells us himself, his daughter had good reason to avoid Randy for the near 20 years that she did. Heroin had a hold on Randy that at times took precedence over his family. But, once Randy decided to change, his daughter took the equally courageous step to come see him. Not only did Randy regain his daughter, but he was introduced to three grandchildren. Randy understands the pain you and your family are going through, he wants to be there battling with you, and he wants to show you that tremendous good will come from this difficult change.
“I get to be blessed to work in recovery. I have them in groups five days a week. I like being in the trenches. I want to be there with them.”
